Family Group Conference (FGC) provides a flexible countywide service across Essex for children and families where there are issues of need and risk factors. Children and young people may be subject to Child Protection Plans or they may be at the stage where professionals are concerned and legal proceedings are being progressed. An FGC is a decision-making meeting in which a child's parents/carers and/or wider family and friendship networks make a plan about future arrangements for the child, which ensures that his/her safety and wellbeing is promoted. FGCs are intended as a respectful, empowering and preventative process to enable children to be placed within their own family network.
