Background
Capita are recruiting for a Commercial lead to join a central government department on a contract basis. The location is flexible, however you must be willing to spend at least 2-3 business days a week in London. This post will be in Broadband Delivery. Applicants are invited to join the commercial team who are responsible for advising on the commercial approaches for Local Authority led projects where the UK government is contributing public funds to be invested in improving broadband infrastructure. This will include working with industry and the public sector. The role may include responsibility for a portfolio of projects potentially including urban and rural broadband projects in the UK.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Working with individual Local Authorities to help them develop commercially robust propositions for procurement for delivery by suppliers • Working as part of project assurance function to assure projects at different stages of development and procurement • Developing and managing the overall commercial approach from a Broadband Programme perspective for specific initiatives as required for the successful delivery of the government's broadband objectives • Engaging with industry to understand potential opportunities and constraints for the delivery of broadband infrastructure projects.
Skills and Experience Required
• Experience of commercial issues in the telecommunications industry is essential including involvement in or good awareness of telecommunications infrastructure delivery. (NB: the important aspect is infrastructure here - i.e. the related to the deployment of communications network infrastructure). • Some awareness of government approaches to procurement and commercial contracting positions (highly desirable) • Experience of dealing with local authorities is desirable. • A candidate must have the gravitas to be seen by local authorities and industry as a suitably empowered commercial representative.
