Working with you to keep children safe
In 2005 Capita was awarded a contract to work in partnership with the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) formerly known as the DfES to provide a service to enable Ofsted registered day care providers throughout England to obtain subsidised CRB disclosures.
Capita and two other contractors took over the administration of CRB Disclosures for people who work in registered children’s day care settings from Ofsted, who had previously provided the service.
Under the contract Capita will act as a Registered Umbrella Body for individuals required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure to work with young children in day care settings who are eligible for the subsidy covering CRB checks.
Eligibility for the Subsidy
Any new employee, or one where a CRB has not previously been requested is eligible for the subsidised Enhanced Disclosure, available through Capita. However Ofsted are still responsible for carrying out the checks on the registered person and the day to day manager of the provision.
Please note that there is no portability of Disclosure, (i.e. a previously carried out CRB check cannot be accepted by a new employer), however any applicant moving to a new employer will have the costs of a new CRB check met within the DCSF subsidy
At present there is no requirement to carry out a CRB check in respect of an employee who has been with the same provider since obtaining their previous Disclosure, or since appropriate checks were made on initial employment, if this predated the CRB.
Employers do however have the discretion to do repeat checks on existing staff if they wish, but these are not covered by the subsidy and the employers will have to pay for these themselves.
Capita are able to provide day care providers with a repeat checking service. The charge for this will be £15.00 per repeat check (plus VAT) and the CRB Disclosure cost itself, currently at £36. Any day care provider requesting a repeat check should communicate this clearly to Capita at the point of request.
